A culture of two shores.
Tango developed in Buenos Aires and Montevideo among criollo communities, people of African descent and European immigrants. Music, poetry and dance formed a shared expression that continues to change. In 2009, Argentina and Uruguay jointly secured its inscription on UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list.
